Merry Christmas!

Our Christmas Social last week was a lot of fun and many beautiful “shows and tells” were on view.

Many thanks to Jennifer for all her help at the United Church Hall.

Merry Christmas and Happy Stitching to everyone.

We look forward to a very fibre-filled 2018.

Art Sox event at ARCAC

Celebrating the Humble Sock!
On Nov.13th, 2017 from 7:00 – 9:00pm ARCAC and SOFAAR had lots of fun collaborating on a celebration of ART SOX.  10 pairs of special socks as well as a museum set featuring famous paintings were displayed and raffled off following a brief and often humerus presentation of each artist by Ted Lind.
SOFAAR members created displays of rare and unusual socks as well as gorgeous colourful socks and hand dyed wool.

Cheryl den Hartog kept us “in stitches” with her amusing description of “Turning the Heel”.  Numerous sock knitters were knitting & in one case, crocheting! socks through-out the eve.

The eve. was topped off with coffee, tea and an artistic display of individually decorated “sock cookies” by Lola’s.

Fibre-in at North Hills in the sun!

A few of us were able to come out today to work on our projects at our scheduled fibre-crafting afternoon at North Hills this afternoon. It was such a lovely, sunny day that we were able to work outside and it was delightful.

Gail showed off her sock in progress and Christine is happy to report that her cat hooking is (almost) done. Just needs the border straightened up a bit!

Cathy, Kay and Cheryl were working away on knitting projects and we were thrilled to have new SOFAAR member Rachael join us all the way from Greenwood with her quilting project. Céleste dropped in to say hi and have a glass of leftover Retreat wine with us !!

We hope to see you at our next event which will take place on the evening of Wednesday, November 1st at ARCAC upstairs when Dr. Niki Clark will give a talk on textile archaeology. She will share insights from 20 years’ research on prehistoric textiles of North and South America. 7 pm. This is a free event.

SOFAAR Retreat a fabulous weekend!

Thirty enthusiastic Fibrephiles attended our first Fabulous Fall Fibre Retreat at the beautiful Queen Anne Inn this last weekend in September.

We were thrilled all see so much different work from tatting to lace making to surface embroidery and cross stitch to Swedish weaving and hooking. Of course, there was knitting and quilting as well.

It was so enjoyable to spend some quiet time working on our projects and having a fun show and tell after our delicious supper.

With all the positive feedback, the Retreat committee is already thinking about next year and we will keep you posted.

Here are some pictures from the weekend.

Fibre gathering lots of fun!

We were a small by happy group who met at Mrs. Nicholson Home on a rainy last Saturday but we happily knitted, embroidered, sewed and hooked for a few hours together.

Rachael, Tammy, Céleste and myself were joined by a young lady in Town for a visit who just happened to see our sign and also have her knitting with her.

We look forward to seeing more members out at our stitching gatherings.

If you would like to host one, please let us know at : info@sofaar.ca
