Membership Extension Increased to 6 Months

In the April/May issue of Snippets we announced that, due to interruption of our ability to host Saturday Snips or provide workshops, all members in good standing as of March 2021 would have their membership extended for 3 months.

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 social distancing requirements, that extension has been increased to 6 months. We are looking into options for programming that might involve meeting via Skype or Zoom and we hope to resume Saturday Snips as early as September if circumstances allow. In the meantime, we’d love to see your works-in-progress. Send them to info@sofaar.ca and we’ll post them here on the website.

Saturday Snips on hold

In light of the pandemic and the need for social distancing, the SOFAAR Board has cancelled upcoming sessions of Saturday Snips until further notice. We will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions about upcoming meetings as the need arises. In the meantime, we’re lucky that fibre arts can be practiced in isolation.

This is a good time to finish UFO’s and start challenging new projects.

While Saturday Snips is on hold, we’ll publish monthly issues of Snippets. Send photos of what you’re working on to gracebutland@eastlink.ca  and we’ll include them in the next issue.

SOFAAR:AGM March 14th: important notice

SOFAAR members,

As you are no doubt already know the World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 to have reached pandemic status. At this time in Canada, as reported on the Government of Canada Health site,  80% of cases are travellers and 10% are close contacts of those travellers. There are no confirmed cases in Nova Scotia at the time of writing but this can change in a moment and progress rapidly.   With this in mind let us take the following precaution:

Anyone returning within the last 14 days from a country or province with confirmed COVID-19 cases, or been in contact with anyone who has, DO NOT attend the AGM event.

We all need our immune systems to be at their best so anyone suffering colds and seasonal flu please stay at home as well.

We are all going to have parts to play in the coming weeks. If it falls to me that my part is to stay home, I will immerse myself in fibre projects and be glad to do so. If we all do our part the show and tells once the contagion has abated could be amazing.

When I became SOFAAR president I never imagined penning such an email, but at this conjuncture I feel it is essential.

Fibre swap and sale. March 14th 2020

Saturday Snips update

We were in Digby on February 8th to enjoy a Saturday Snips.

SOFAAR was pleased to welcome two new members:

Saturday Snips: February 8th: Digby

This month’s Saturday Snips takes place on Saturday, February 8th at the Digby Baptist church.

As for every Snips, our gathering is from 1 to 4 pm.

The Baptist Church is located at 2 Mount Street on the corner of Mount Street and Montague Street.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Please bring along something for the show and tell.

Non-members are welcome to come and see what we are up to. Fibre work of all kinds is done at the Saturday Snips from knitting to needlepoint, hooking to quilting.

FREE Workshop this Sunday

Our program Getting Started, a presentation by Karen Michael Warner, originally set for January 19, 2020, is rescheduled to Sunday, January 26, 2020, at 1:30 pm, at the Paradise Community Hall, weather permitting. If we have to cancel, we will post it on our web site, www.sofaar.ca and on our Facebook page, FibreSOFAAR, on the morning of the 26th, so please check before leaving.

This program is open and free to all our members; non-members will be charged a $10.00 fee. You are welcome to attend even if you did not resister for the 19th.

Please let us know you are coming at info@sofaar.ca so we know how many chairs to put out. This is not a strict requirement but if we know you are coming we can inform you by email of a cancellation.

If we do have to cancel the event we will reschedule it for a Sunday in March or April when the weather may be more cooperative.

Workshop CANCELLED for January 19th

SOFAAR Workshop –

Phase II – Conception to Completion scheduled for Sunday, January 19th 1:30 to 4:30 at the Paradise Community Hall, has been cancelled due to the snowy forecast for tomorrow.

The Workshop is being rescheduled for next Sunday, January 26th. same time and same place.

Fun and sharing at the Snips

It is always a great Saturday afternoon when we get together to work on our fibre projects. We were a good crowd on January 11th in Bridgetown.

Knitting, quilting, hooking, cross-stitching were all taking place.

Saturday Snips is also a place to share expertise and to ask questions.

Julia was able to get some quilting advice from Céleste and Aprille.

We all enjoy the show and tell very much and we were busy working away on our projects.

Saturday Snips: January 11th

Welcome to a brand new year of fibre crafting!

This coming Saturday, we will gather from 1-4 (weather permitting) at the Saint-Alphonsus Church at 93, South Street in Bridgetown.

All members are welcome as well as guests who would like to see what we are all about.

Bring a project to work on and bring a show and tell. Come and see how much more background Rachael has filled in on her peacock 🙂
