Use of AR LibraryInnovation Lab

The Annapolis Royal library would like to see more SOFAAR members use equipment in their innovation lab.

What equipment they have available for fibre artists are:

 • Sewing machine
• Serger
• Bolivar cutter for rug hookers
• Swift and ball winder
• Drum carder
• Quilting rulers, mats and rotary cutters
• Lights with magnifiers
• Iron and ironing board

You do need to be a member of the library, which is free. In order to be able to use the equipment unsupervised, you are required to be signed off each piece you need to use.

How you do that is with Charlette Janes, who is the Systems and Collections Access Coordinator with the Annapolis Valley Regional Library. She will sign you off as being proficient, once you have had your training and you will receive a card stating that.

Charlette will be at the Annapolis Royal Library every 2nd Monday.

Her dates are:

November 18th

December 2nd, 16th.
Possibly she will be there December 30th too.
Phone beforehand at 902-531-2226 for the Dec. 30th date.

January 13th and 27th, 2020

You can just drop in on the above dates between the hours of 1 – 4pm at the Library, 143 Ritchie street, the rear entrance of the Academy behind and below the gym. Once you are signed off, then the Innovation lab is open for your use as below.

Monday 1 – 4pm
Wednesday 1 – 4pm
Saturday 10am – 2pm

We encourage you to make use of the free equipment. We are very fortunate to have it available to us as fibre artists.

A Successful Snips

About 24 SOFAAR members were present at Moose River Hooking Studio where we met for our monthly Saturday Snips gathering.

Members were working on crocheting, knitting, redwork embroidery, quilting, hooking and cross-stitching.

We spent an enjoyable afternoon hosted by Blaine and Leslie in their wonderful, colourful space.

Our next Saturday Snips will also be our Christmas party! Stay tuned for details and follow us on Facebook.

Broach Approach workshop

Thirteen participants attended Sam Norgard’s “Broach Approach” beading workshop sponsored by SOFAAR on Sunday, August 11th.

We all came away having learned peyote stitch, brick stitch and stack stitch along with information on beading threads and needles and supplies.

Now, we must all finish our  broaches for a future show and tell!
